How and where did the book show that it has betrayal as the main theme?
The Kite Runner is about friendship to betrayal, through out the book. It first shows how Amir betrayed Hassan, then Amir betrayed his own father, and through out the book, Baba betrayed Ali, Amir, Hassan, Rahim Khan, and his own wife, having sex with his own servantЎ¦s wife, Sanaubr
Amir, the son of Baba, is keen in kite running. As he grew up with the house servantЎ¦s son, Hassan, they were very close to each other. They played with each other, spent time together reading stories, and most importantly, Hassan treated Amir as a friend, a friend that he is so loyal to that he would protect him by all means, even if he had a slingshot in his hand only. A slingshot, something thatЎ¦s not very destructive, and wouldnЎ¦t do much good to the situation usually, but he did. Hassan protected Amir from Assef, just with a slingshot. He stood up against Assef, a boy whoЎ¦s much older, and stronger than him, and said Ў§Please leave us alone, Agha.ÐŽÐ( page39 ) twice, even after AssefЎ¦s threatening, he still stood there, between Assef and Amir, protecting him with his slingshot. But, Amir still betrayed him. There was this inter-village kite running contest. Amir and Hassan was a team, and the made it to the top. In the end, Hassan went off to run the last kite Amir defeated, but was cornered by Assef and his 2 followers, Kamal and Wali. They felt humiliated last time when Hassan stood up against him, and want to take the last kite from him. But Hassan refused to surrender and made a stand. He fought against them, and saved the kite. Although the kite was broken, still, he still managed to give the kite back to Amir. As for Amir, he was there, he saw how Hassan got beaten up, but he betrayed him, he didnЎ¦t even say a word when he saw it happened, and just watched him got bullied and got knocked to the ground. Amir was partly too scared, but he still didnЎ¦t say a word afterwards to show how sorry he is. And so, Amir betrayed Hassan, his best friend, and one and only brother.
Moreover, Baba is AmirЎ¦s father. Amir knew that, but when Baba stood up against the Russian soldier, he even prayed that Baba would just sit down, instead of standing up with him, supporting him, but he didnЎ¦t. He saw that the Russian soldier was going to shoot his own father, but he still didnЎ¦t do anything about it, and just sat there, trying to get himself out of the incident. He had this kind of experience before, but he still repeated his mistake. Ў§Me mind flashed ЎKЎKhe really means to shoot youЎР( bottom of page 107-108 ) As a son, that a kind of betrayal on their parents.
Now, speaking or betrayal, Baba, a rich man who had house servants, the father of 2 sons, a husband, a businessman who had partners, betrayed everyone around him. He was the kind of thief that he once told Amir about when Amir was still a boy, he stole the right of knowing the truth, he leave his partner behind, and fled to America himself, and had sex with his servantЎ¦s wife. Baba betrayed his own wife and his servant, the servant who grew up with him, like Hassan growing up with Amir. He had sex with Sanaubar, AliЎ¦s wife, and had a son, Hassan. He betrayed his own son, by not letting Amir know that he had a brother, and what makes matters worst is that Baba made his son serve him and Hassan as a servant, not letting him have the right to go to schools and learn, and never told them the truth, not even after he died. Amir had to find out the truth from Rahim Khan. ThatЎ¦s not all, Baba betrayed Rahim Khan, his true friend. Baba knew that there was a war coming, so he fled to America, taking Amir with him, but he didnЎ¦t take Rahim Khan with him, instead, he told him to look after his house, the house in Kabul.
Conclusion, speaking of betrayal, this book is surely the book that demonstrates how people can betray others, including their family, their loved ones, even their friends. Basically, there are 3 types of betrayal in this book, betrayal between father and son, husband and wife, among friends, master and servants.
