Pfizer was founded by cousins Charles Pfizer and Charles Erhart in 1849 in Brooklyn New York, as Charles Pfizer and Company, a chemical business; the merger with Warner-Lambert in 2000 and Pfizer membership in 2002 in the U.N. Global Compact an international network that promotes good corporate citizenship, are among the many milestones that shape the company it is today; Pfizer acquisition of Pharmacia Corporation in 2003 propelled it to new heights in its path to seek growth and to lead product innovation (2007, David). Pfizer Corporate headquarters is located in New York, NY (USA) and the R&D locations are, Groton and New London Connecticut; Sandwich, England; La Jolla, California; St. Louis, Missouri; Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Rinat, South San Francisco, California; as well as the international R&D operations which are located in the United Kingdom, France and Japan. Pfizer also has major manufacturing plants in the USA, Belgium, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Over the last century, the company has aligned itself with the developing trends to become a research-based pharmaceutical company. Notably, Pfizer produced most of the penicillin used during World War ll, Pfizer is the world’s largest pharmaceutical with ------------- in revenue in 2006. Pfizer is also the owner of the cholesterol-lowering drug Lipitor, which currently the best selling medicine in the world (Pfizer.com). The company has remained dedicated to discovering and developing new, and better, ways to treat and prevent disease and improve the health and quality of life for people around the world. From the miracle of penicillin to the patient support program they have developed along with Chantix, a prescription medicine to help people quit smoking, and focus on finding answers to the biggest health challenges of the times, they have continually evolved to keep pace with the needs and expectations of their stakeholders and society as a whole (Pfizer.com). Pfizer operate in three main business segments; human health, consumer healthcare, and animal health. The human health segment, also known as its Pharmaceutical division, is Pfizer core business, it present over 85 percent of Pfizer sales worldwide, followed by the consumer healthcare and animal health segments.
