Contact

The story contact is about a woman called Janet. She is thirty years old, but at this stage in her life she is lonely and depressed, because she had been badly treated in a past relationship. She then loses the one she loves.

Janet meets a man called Jeremy. He is English born and very interested in her. On the second occasion of their meeting, she did not recall meeting him the first time, until he re-introduced himself. Then she remembered. Jeremy invited her out and expresses his feelings for her. She falls in love with him and they become very close. Sometime later, Jeremy leaves for France. And Janet is left alone. He keeps in touch with her by writing letters on a regular basis.

While is France, Jeremy suffers a terrible tragedy. He is badly burned, broke his back and was paralyzed. But he was determined to come back to Janet. With all the terrible news Janet had heard about Jeremy, she was joyful because she would finally get to have Jeremy to herself forever. She sent a message to Jeremy saying "contact", because he had told her in the past that she would never get to hold him.

Jeremy dies, but Janet does not accept that he is gone. She hears humming; it is from a storm about to start. As she goes into the meadow, the noise gets louder. Finally the storm starts, and she is soaked. She reacts with laughter, because she believes it was Jeremy trying to talk to her. She is thrilled to be there.

Often times, people create something to believe in, so as to make them happy; and escape the harsh realities of life.
