1. Urban Policy looks at ways of regenerating urban areas and reducing poverty levels in certain areas. There have been two main arguments as to which the best method of doing this is, whether you should regenerate 'the people' i.e. training, education or the place, i.e. the local economy and buildings etc. In the UK, thirteen million of the fifty eight million populations are classified as poor. There is and always has been a great need for urban policy on regeneration in an attempt to lift this thirteen million people over the poverty level. There has been three of ways since the 1960's in which this has been attempted. In 1970 the Conservative party started a socially driven attempted to reduce

2. Blair is continuing this type of policy.

3. It is my opinion that urban policy must be looked at as targeting not just a place, but also the people. Without jobs, training is not much good. Without suitable jobs for local people in poverty stricken areas, they are little use. Social regeneration and economic regeneration must go hand in hand and cannot be looked at separately. The key to making an urban policy successful is to look at all aspects of what makes an area unsuccessful, both the place and the people.

4. The Democrats are one of the oldest political parties today. Their ideals have appealed too many. Over the years, different types of campaign strategies have been implemented. To properly campaign the party must appeal to certain groups, as well as present their ideas in a convincing way. The Democratic Party has remained strong by appealing to many people.

5. Democrats work for the "little guy." They try to help out our veterans, and make sure that social security is reliable. Democrats are interested in making our nations public schools better. Children should have more choice when going to school. Whenever possible there should be modest tax cuts in order to help the middle class.

6. to abortion. They feel that it is the mother's choice as to what and how she would like her child to live. Parents know the circumstances and should be able to decide for themselves. To make America a more beautiful place, pollution should be controlled.

7. To control pollution the government must work with businesses to solve environmental problems. Arguing with them will almost always get nowhere. There should be more parks to beautify and help keep the air in America clean. In addition to that more stringent vehicle emission laws should be passed. The government should work with and advise auto makers to reduce the emissions from their

8. A political party is a group organized to support certain policies or questions of public interest. These issues could be of peace, war, tax, how people earn their money, and more. For example, tax is one of the most important issues facing Americans today. Do we tax higher or lower? Parties give their own views on each discussion and the people vote for the side they believe in.

9. Many people support political parties and many do not. Our first President of the U.S. George Washington said to beware of "Faction" in his Farewell Address. Some opposed and others agreed, this lead to the creation of the two most important political parties ever created, the Democrats and

10. for generous tax cuts. Democrats also believe in helping the unemployed, not just large businesses or people who have more fortunate lives. The Democrats have made ten different plans to help the economy. They include a large amount of money to help boost the economy financially and a one year plan to help struggling states.

11. The government's role the current Democrats believe in is a large and strong government. They would rather have the government control more than the people. Instead of the Republicans having a small government with power to the people, Democrats want the government to be the center of the Nation. They believe that without a

12. on probusiness policies, a belief in volunteerism and the ability of the American people to take care of their own problems without government intervention. The Democratic Party came back into control during the Great Depression when the Republican Policy was ineffective in relieving the economic problems. The Democrats dominated for the most part through the 1960s. However, the Republicans have won five of the last seven presidential

elections. The current President is a Democrat but it is not clear if the Democratic Party will be able to continue to dominate. There have been 900 other 'third' parties throughout history but the Republican and Democratic Parties have remained the leaders

13. Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal, was a reform policy, that was unique to him, though some of the same ideas were upheld in the Progressive and Populist movements. Roosevelt was successful at introducing his policy in a time where it seemed to be the only hope to get out of the depression. It was the people's ray of light. The Populists and Progressives represented the farmers and those oppressed by the major industrialists, unlike Roosevelt who stood for all common men. Hoover and his two predecessors were a disgrace in the case of reform movement; they didn't really get active towards it. Roosevelt's New Deal was indeed "new", a break from the past and a step into the future by introducing

14. The poorest people in America often didn't get help during these years of benefit, and stayed as poor as they were, but also many were helped thanks to the HOLC.
