What do you see as some of the major challenges of organizational behavior and management over the next several decades that both FMC locations; Green River and Aberdeen will have to considerâ€”with particular emphasis on organizational commitment and job satisfaction? Explain why those are significant to this company. Use the text, other materials, and your own experience to support your argument
Organizational behavior encompasses a wide range of topics, such as human behavior, change, leadership, teams, etc. The definition according to Don Clark, http://www.nwlink.com/~donclark/leader/leadob.html. organizational behavior is the study and application of knowledge about how people, individuals, and groups act in organizations. It does this by taking a system approach. That is, it interprets people-organization relationships in terms of the whole person, whole group, whole organization, and whole social system. Its purpose is to build better relationships by achieving human objectives, organizational objectives, and social objectives.
I believe that the major challenges of organizational behavior and management that will be faced by these conglomerates will primarily be keeping the employees satisfied with the working conditions, each other and the company as a whole. Organizational behavior encompasses the systematic application of behavioral science knowledge at various levels, such as group, inter-group, organization, etc., to bring about planned change. The objective is a higher quality of work-life, productivity, adaptability, and effectiveness. This is accomplished by changing attitudes, behaviors, values, strategies, procedures, and structures so that the organization can adapt to competitive actions, technological advances, and the fast pace of change within the environment. At Aberdeen where employee morale is high I would suggest that the continued implementation and the creation of team participation be implemented in all facets of this company. When employees are given responsibility it causes for increased work ethics and motivation. Most people do not want to be supervised they want to be included and at Aberdeen this is what I understand from the reading to have been done. One of the greatest aspects about Aberdeenâ€™s Organizational commitment is the fact that learning is incorporated into everyoneâ€™s job. The employees are required to know all the jobs of their respective teams. This company is ensuring that the employees are equipped to do any job and for the time they invest they are compensated with pay increases for every new skill they acquire.
With comparing of the two locations I would advise that Green River adapt some of the practices to match that of its sister company Aberdeen to instill in its employees a sense of camaraderie and unity. Corporate commitment needs to be steadfast. With employees knowing that their company is in their corner Green River sould without question be able to follow in Aberdeenâ€™s footsteps. People at the Aberdeen location state proudly how they appreciated being trusted by management, having managementâ€™s help in times of need, having a management who listened to their concern, and having control over their work environment, pace and structure. Green River though successful in their own right could stand to take a few pointers from Aberdeen. Giving the employees more responsibility and more training in other areas within the company could boost company profit considerably. I think change is a good thing for Green River. The company has been in the same mode for years and a little change in management style could do wonders. Company trust in its employees would assist in making the Green River plant a company thatâ€™s turn over rate smaller
