I believe the two greatest problems facing contemporary United States are the issues of same sex marriage and drug legalization. These issues are currently being widely debated throughout America. American citizens have many different outlooks and opinions on these topics and they are all trying to persuade each other to think the same way as they do about these problems. However, no matter how loud these people speak out the only people who can actually do something about them are those people in the government. Our government officials have been trying to decide on a fair and constitutional decision for these issues, but they all have different ideas. Thus making it harder for America to settle these two problems, and leading to further disputes about them.

The issue of same sex marriage is a popular problem in America today. It is a problem because some Americans believe that same sex marriage is morally wrong and that it should not be allowed. Christians and other religious people mainly think that it is wrong. They think this because they believe that it is a sin and that AIDS is a punishment of that sin. They also believe that is evil and a corruption to our society. Many other people believe that it is just not normal for a man to marry a man or a woman to marry a woman. They think that a marriage is the binding and making of a man and woman into one, and that it should not be any other way. On the other hand, there are people who support same sex marriages. They are in favor of it because homosexuality is very common in America and if we do not let it happen then it will forever be an ongoing issue. They say that homosexuals do not try and corrupt society, they are just being the people that God made them into, and that they are not affecting anyone but themselves. Also, supporters of this issue argue that the constitution states that all men are created equal and there is no amendment saying that same sex marriage is illegal. In other words, the supporting and opposing views of the issue of same sex marriage are mostly surrounded by Christian and political views, and these two views can be heavily debated making it even more difficult to come to a compromising agreement.

Another issue that I would like to discuss is that of drug legalization. It is a known fact that illegal drugs kill thousands of people
