Same sex marriage legalization has become such a controversial issue. People do not know whether to vote for it or vote against it. Why do you think people have put so much thought into it? This question could probably have a lot of answers to it. There are so many different points of view to consider from many different people. Society is all about not discriminating anyone, but does it not realize that by not legalizing it would mean discrimination.

"Marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman. Neither this Constitution nor the constitution of any state, nor state or federal law, shall be construed to require that marital status or the legal incidents thereof be conferred upon unmarried couples or groups."

This is what we call the Federal Marriage Amendment, or the H.J Resolution/ S.J. Resolution ("Federal"). Does this not prove to everyone that discrimination is involved? Same sex marriages should be something to stress about, because it is unfair for someone else to make up a decision for anyone. Why should it be up to the government to decide who can marry who? It is so common to see a gay, lesbian couple in our society now. Therefore, this is why I want same sex marriages to be made legal.

A same sex couple can be seen next door to a person, or in a public place like a market. A same sex couple can be in love, just as well as a couple of the opposite sex. However, a same sex couple cannot be married like a couple of the opposite sex. Does this seem a bit odd to you? People are entitled to their opinion, but once it comes to the legalization of same sex marriages they are not. Gays and lesbians all over America have been trying to make people understand that they should have the same rights as a straight couple. Just like Martin Luther King, Jr. tried to make American understand that blacks should have the same rights as whites. To his benefit, America heard his voice. So why has America not heard the voices of homosexuals? Our president, George W. Bush, has pushed so many people away from him with his opinion of marriage should be between a man and a woman. Consequently, gays and lesbians in many states are still not able to marry each other.

According to Stanley Kurtz, marriage is a traditional value between a man and a woman (Kurtz 283). He says that the reason why men and women marry is because they want to build a family together. Therefore, he says that a homosexual couple cannot build that family, because of the fact that they cannot conceive children. In today's world homosexuals and heterosexuals practice different ways of bearing children. Therefore it should not matter that a homosexual's child was not conceived in a heterosexual way.
