Effects of Technology

In our society today, one of the most leading technology breakthroughs has created a more productive way of life for us such as the simplicity of the cell phone. The cell phone is used for individuals of all ages to allow them to feel more safe and secure. With its creation, many of us rely on this piece of equipment to communicate in different ways such as texting, calling, and internet usage. Even though some individuals may argue with the cell phone usage, it has been proven to be a necessity in our daily lifestyles.

According to “The History of Cell Phones - A Vision Realized” (Marples, 2004), the cell phone has come along way since 1832. A gentleman named Samuel Morse had a vision of creating what is known as the information superhighway. In the beginning of his experiment, Morse wanted to use an under water cable besides the copper wires used on telephone poles. Unfortunately, a ship accidentally pulled up the cable which redirected his plan. Samuel was still able to introduce wireless communication by using conduction. There were several others that had possibilities of creating a method of conducting electricity to transmit and receive messages. In 1954, Martin Cooper, who was known as the father of the cell phone, was hired by Motorola. This period became the introduction of many challenges that individuals would face by the invention of the cell phone.

In more recent time, individuals have allowed the cell phone to give us a special kind of freedom to communicate more freely. This style of communication has helped during several of the nationwide school shootings, missing children amber alerts, and other unfortunate incidents such as 9-11. It has allowed parents to have a sense of security when their teenager is away from home. But some people may not approve of the cell phone due to the fact they are not apt for change.
