Medtronic and The Oracle Database Management System
Medtronic, Inc. is a global leader in medical technology providing lifelong solutions for people with chronic disease. The company offers products, therapies, and services that enhance or extend the lives of millions of people. Each year, 5 million people benefit from Medtronic's technology, used to treat conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, neurological disorders, and vascular disease. Medtronic has been in the business of selling medical devices for half of a century.
The company uses various Oracle Databases to store several hundred gigabytes of information on every implantable device the company sells. Oracle Database is a relational database management system software product released by Oracle Corporation and has become a major feature in database computing.

The Oracle System has created a Ð²Ð‚ÑšCommand and ControlÐ²Ð‚Ñœ dashboard, available to a variety of departments, that decreased the reporting production and distribution overhead, enabled tracking of new products sold verses the old, allowing management to correct any existing problems where sales teams were focused on selling older, more familiar products.
With the Oracle Database Management System on Medtronic's side, several teams across the company, including sales, marketing, shipping, and operation, now have critical business information at their fingertips. Sales representatives across the world can view their individual or team's progress on a day-to-day basis. This allows the sales force to quickly identify any problems and make better sales decisions on the go. Moreover, the supply chain management and shipping departments can track how fast customers are receiving their products. The shipping department can drill down into the reports to view which carrier or shipping method is most-effecient.
Medtronic's marketing department uses business intelligence from Oracle's Business Objects to measure the success of its marketing campaigns. The marketing team can also view how a particular product has sold over the past five or ten years more easily than before and adjust its go-to-market strategy.
