What does it mean to be an American

What it means to be an American is very special. Some people don't realize how lucky they are to actually be a true American. By definition an American is someone who is born in America. That is not nearly what it means to be an American. To be in American you have to have faith in your country, respect your country, and most of all believe in your country. Some people say they are in American which they very well probably are. But they aren't a true American unless they do those following things for their country. Some people take the term "being an American" to an entire new level. These people defend our country in the military. If you are willing to go across the world, to defend your country, by risking your life, you are a true American.

Think of all the rights an American has. It's better than any other country in the world. You have to respect your nation for giving you all these freedoms. If you can't show a little respect by just standing up every morning and saying a short phrase saluting your flag, how can you call yourself an American? You need to do the little things to respect and have faith in your country. I think that is the biggest part to being an American is respecting your country. Also to be a true American I think you have to respect the laws of this country. To be a devoted citizen you have to respect the laws of this country. You need to follow the laws and make sure you respect your country.

Another big thing in being in American is voting for your countries leaders. If you're going to be an American you need to at least vote for your nations leaders. It is your duty as an American to decide who is going to lead your country.

What do you think when you think of an American? You think of Justice, and the president, and courtesy. That's what I think of when I think of an American. I think of things like policemen, firefighters, National Guard, and the military. All these things are pure examples of what it's like to be an American.

Some other things that portray what it's like to be an American, are sports. Sports are a very American tradition. There are some sports traditions that are like no other in America. When you think of sports in America you have to think of the American Pass time of baseball. Some people say that if you don't support baseball, your not American. I believe that but that's only because I'm obsessed with baseball. But still if you go to baseball games all across the nation. Everyone of them, the national anthem is played before every game. In the major's during the 7th inning stretch even, they sing god bless America. Patriotism is very alive in all major American sporting events. When people get really into these sporting events, they're really getting into being an American too because they are standing for the national anthem before the game, they are singing along with god bless America in the 7th inning streth. Baseball is America's National Pass Time, being a part of baseball is a big part of being an American.

As we are Americans, we also have many responsibilities as being Americans. We have a reputation to live up to as being an American. We have to stand strong when we go to war and be the powerhouse. At home we have to fit in at schools and in the work place with the new hottest fashion. If we don't fit in and be popular, we won't fit in as the "average" American. To be in American you have to be like everyone else in America, you have to live up to that reputation.

The main point of these paragraphs is to just give whoever reads this a little more understanding on what Americans should strive to be like. My goal of this paper was to just try to help people become a better American. To respect there country more, and to do the little things to have faith in America. You have to believe that America is the greatest country on the planet and to salute your countries flag every day and respect the great nation of the United States of America.
