Governor's election individual write up
Chris Christie is best known for his aggressive style of leadership. He is a republican governor of New Jersey which is a traditionally democratic state. Christie started his political career in 1955 when he lost the assembly race. Christie became a lobbyist for energy companies in 1998, positioning him to become a top fundraiser for Bush’s presidential campaign in 2000. In 2001, Bush nominated Christie to serve as United States Attorney for New Jersey. This nomination was seen as controversial because he didn’t have too much experience. He resigned as attorney in December 2008, and ran for governor of New Jersey in 2009 and won. He is suited to be a governor after running for office and losing because he could reflect on what he did wrong to make him a strong candidate for the next time he ran. Also experience as a lobbyist and attorney give you good prerequisites for a job like being a governor, because you are well informed on the type of issues you deal with.
Christie is a proud Republican, who says he loves is party but, my view is that he’s mostly a Republican for the the way he attempts to manage the economy through taxation, spending, and borrowing. He erased an $11 billion deficit from the New Jersey books, without raising taxes and without affecting the state’s pensioners. When it comes to social issues he’s more liberal than conservative. For example, Christie would rather treat addicts instead of them being in prison, he has said the future of New Jersey lies in green energy, and even has nice things to say about Obama. For education, he wants to implement a new system which measures and ensures every child receives the quality education they deserve. He also wants to improve public schools by rewarding deserving teachers with merit pay, and empowering parents with access to data. For health care Christie does not support GOP Graham-Cassidy health care bill because he is not going to support a bill that takes nearly $4 billion away from the people of New Jersey. And on immigration he believes the illegal immigrants currently in the United States would not leave on their own and that there aren’t enough law officials to deport them all. He also doesn’t believe in a wall or a fence across the entire southern border, because it’s too expensive and inefficient.
Governor Christie is not perceived as highly in New Jersey compared to past governors of the state. Christie’s job
