"Hello, anybody listening, it's an emergency!"
One fine evening, I was at home and listening to music with an enjoyable mood. The music was so sweet and melodious that I was totally absorbed in it. All of a sudden, the telephone bell started ringing although I was not expecting any call at that time. I picked up the receiver and heard these words from some unknown person. The voice was disturbing too. I asked him for his identity and about the nature of emergency. The caller replied that he was a doctor and speaking from XYZ Hospital. He further informed me that he had found my telephone number from the wallet of Mr. Stanley, a friend of mine. The reason for calling was to inform me that my friend was hit by a car sometime before and by that time he was in Intensive Care Unit.
At that time, I was surprised, speechless and motionless. I couldn't believe what the doctor had said. I hardly controlled myself and rushed to the car. I was driving the car very furiously, avoided many accidents and managed to reach the hospital. I ran towards the ICU, and asked the doctor about Stan's condition. The doctor told me that he is in a dangerous condition. I sat outside the ward praying for Stan. As I was sitting, a doctor came out of the ICU with a sad face.
"I am sorry", the doctor said.
"Wham, what?" I replied. I couldn't believe the doctor's words.
"Sorry, but we were unable to save your friend's life", the doctor replied.
I was shocked to lose my closest friend. My life flashed back. I could remember those days when we were kids and used to play, and have lots of fun. He was my next door neighbor. We took admission in the same school, college & now, we even took admission in the same university and we were doing Masters in the same field.
