Billy's home environment is not conducive to normal upright behaviour and contributs to Billys delinquency. This is shown by the attitute portrayed by billy's mother and brother.Billy's older brother jud, does not encourage Billy in his interest in falconry insted he scorns Billys attempt to read the book on falconry .Billy's brother does not ridicule billy's thiefery insted he says"tha must be crackers ... nicking books ... I could understand if it was money, but chufff me not a book. An' what better off will that be when tha's read it?

Billy is left with the impression that he can steal and it will not cause him any harm all he has to do is steal money.he is left feeling alone .No one supports him in his endeavours. Not his brother or mother, the latter is more caught up in her personal life than the life of her sons.

Billy's mother and brother exemplifies and exudes selfish behaviour .t the beginning of the novel jud takes the sheets from the bed and refuses to re -set the alarm clock and leaves the light on,all because he is jealous of Billy.

After billy delivers the papers inhis route and returns home Billy's mohter wants cigarettes and sencs billy to buy them in the shop knowing that billy that billy has to go to school. She shows blatant disregard for billy's eduacation and alll these factors result in Billy's poor perfomance in school as his stealing habits

Another factor of Billy's home environment that contibutes to her delinquencty is the lack ot a fatehr figure in his life as he has no one to guide him and the fact that he has no father clearly bothers him as he demonstrates in his tall story.Billy imangines his impossibly happy day where he wakes up to food,a a warm house his father and Jud is gone.
