RESEARCH

Source Number 1

Title вЂ" Tackling the bloke code, by Richard Yallop

Information from source вЂ" This article was from вЂ?The Australian’ newspaper. This article brought my attention to a lot more about AFL players and sexual assault. It gives a first hand account of a woman known as вЂ?Donna’ who knows first hand what footballers are like. Donna spent time with a Richmond player who often requested things such as group sex from her. Donna also told of other women who dated footballers who were asked if their boyfriend’s mates could have sex with them.

Relevance to my issue вЂ" This article talks about footballs culture and the attitude of some players towards women. It states that because of each clubs culture to always вЂ?forgive and protect’ players, sexual assault against women will occur. The article says that the general culture of the AFL needs to be changed so that women can feel safe when in the company of footballers.

Bias/Relevance/Credibility of source вЂ" The article is probably bias towards women slightly, as it is told from a woman’s point of view. It does not give any person involved in the AFL a chance to rebut the arguments. However, I think that the article has lots of credibility as it gives first hand accounts, statistics and various opinions of experts on the matter.

Title вЂ" AFL stars must play by society’s rules, by Janet Albrechtsen

Information from source вЂ" This article was from вЂ?The Australian’ newspaper. The article talks about the AFL’s uphill issue of convincing the public that footballers respect women. It also states that as a result of the NRL sexual assault issues, AFL players have no excuses for any stupid behaviour out in public or indeed while with women.

Relevance to my issue вЂ" The article is relevant to my issue because it talks about how elite footballers can become involved in sexual assault. It is because of their, “physical power and aggression coupled to a pack mentality, self belief, risk taking and the will to win,” that footballers put themselves at a high risk of having trouble socially with women.

Bias/Relevance/Credibility of source вЂ" The article is one person’s opinion. It has a couple of quotes from other people but the article mainly about telling AFL players that they are not above the law. I believe that the article is fairly credible as it states the facts and does not bend the truth at all.
