Jiro is an 85yearold
sushi master in Japan. He is falling in love with his work,
and have no complain about his job. Even in his dreams, he will have visions of sushi.
My grandfather also has good attitudes to job and his life. He enjoys reading and
spends time with his cohort groups. They all share common participation on social
activities to share knowledge to youths, and selffulfillment
to achieve to a higher level,
which is based on United Nation’s principles for older persons. There are five most
import determinants of the WHO Active Aging framework for Jiro, to have more
opportunities in his environment to be a sushi master. There are behavior determinants,
personal determinants, physical environment determinants, culture determinants, and
social environment determinants. All of determinants are keys to Jiro’s success on
sushi.
Jiro believes it is important to focus on his own life and mastering his skill. This is
his key and secret of success on his sushi career. When Jiro making sushi, he always
has a stern look on his face, because he is highly focussed on things he does. Jiro can
inject a certain depth of flavor to a simple sushi, as Jori said: ultimate simplicity leads to
purity. In Jiro’s restaurant, he only serves sushi, and no other dishes. There are no
techniques for making sushi with good flavors according to Jiro’s words. He believes it’s
important to repeat the same thing every day, and then will come with effort. There are

Although, there are people born with talents, but Jior think if you can work hard and you
will eventually come better over time. But if you want to reach to a higher level, talent
will need to place.
Basically Jiro spend his time on the same routine everyday. Jiro is crazy about
work, and he doesn’t even like holiday, because he feels it’s too long for him and he
wants back to work. As great chief, Jiro follow five attributes. He work very seriously, he
willing to improve his skills, always keeps the cleanliness, patience, and passionate. Jiro
like to do things over and over to improve his ability to make sushi, because he is
perfectionism. And he also believes there are more space for him to improve it.
Therefore, he trying hard to climb, and wants to reach the top, although there is nobody
knows where is the top. He never hates his once and always fell in love with his work.
Compare to the old elders like Jiro, my grandfather Zonghao Li also passionate
about his job as a high school’s principal in China. After he retired, he also found joys in
his life. He will listen to radios, and read newspapers in the morning to expand the lens
of his mind. And then he will go out and publish blackboard newspaper in his
community. He collected recent news for daily, wrote down on the blackboard, then
share to all the neighbors in the community. In this way, people learned knowledge from
blackboard newspaper. My grandfather is also feeling fully engaged and fulfilled. After
breakfast he will go to a senior center near where he lives, to participate at a senior
chorus. He spent time with his cohort; they shared similar experiences of life, pleasant
time of singing, and they even went to performance outoftown.
After he gets home in
the afternoon, he will watch the news in the TV or read books. My grandfather has a
good habit for over 40 years, which is he will write a journal about his life and things
happened around him. He will feel more complete when we write a journal at night
before he goes to sleep.
My grandfather is satisfaction with his retirement in general. His attention is fully
on what happen in the world, what progress today’s society made, and also joy times
like in the senior chorus, or writing a journal about life. All of his attention made him
becomes more positive about study and life, and more willing to learn and make more
joy to the people around him.
Compare and contrast the older adults in their later life, they both made

“Older persons should remain integrated in society, participate actively in the
