Preparing for My College Experience
I have been feeling a mixture of excitement and anxiety. I am excited to be moving forward with my life. At the same time I feel anxious about leaving behind my school, my friends, my family and my home.
I have to overcome the stress involved in making so many big changes. I must be prepared to handle any new pressures that may come along. I suppose the best way to get through this is to look at all of the positives.
College is going to be like a whole new way of life for me. I have the opportunity to explore a new place, make new friends, learn new things, and set my own priorities. College will provide the means for me to work toward achieving my goals.

Where Does My Time Go?
I am responsible for managing my time now that I am in college. There is no one around to tell me when to do my homework, when to get up, when to eat, when to go to bed. I have to be wise about how I use my time.
The amount of time I hang out with my friends during the weekdays is now limited. I have set a schedule for myself and am trying to stick with it. Although I am tempted to hang out late at night, especially when football games are televised, I spend more time doing homework and studying in the library. I know better than to attempt to do this in my dorm room. The telephone and the tv would create too much of a distraction.
My weekends are used for leisure activities. By committing my time to doing homework and studying during the week I am free on weekends to participate in campus activities, go home to visit with family and friends, or just hang out with my friends around campus. The time I have to spend in college definitely comes with a lot of responsibility.

How I Learn
College courses are at a higher level than those in high school. It seems the material is presented to us at a much faster pace. The professors assign more reading and writing than I am used to. Learning in college definitely requires making major adjustments.
In high school I learned a lot just by listening. Now that I am in college I have to take a lot of notes and read over them daily. I have never been one to learn by memorizing material. I have to read a lot and make associations between key words and their definitions.
I am finding that the best way for me to learn things is by experience.
