- What is Moore’s Law and how did the idea get started? Moores law states that dealing with transistor density that the elements will double for the next 10 years to 66,000 elements. Moore also predicted the progression and minimization of transistors over time.
- Explain the connection between Moore’s Law and growth of technology in society? Moore’s Law is the same model our entrepreneurial society runs on. Moore’s Law has enlightened innovators and has reflected greatly on consumer expectations of today. The next cell phone will be faster and thinner to keep up with market demands.
Labor Market / Jobs
- List and explain at least 3 career/job areas that the authors predict will be significantly impacted by developing technologies. The transportation industry, the legal system of finding truth, customer service and billing services will be dramatically affected by technology in the future.
- What career areas do you believe will be safe from technology advancement?-Government positions (law makers, military, police), and any positon that people prefer face to face interaction ( health services, counseling, trainers, coaches). Construction industry- robots do not have the aesthetic eye for human preference for building floor layouts and aren’t as mobile to climb on roofs, withstand elements, and to know proper techniques or building codes that are only learned through human experience.
- What do you think the labor market and unemployment will look like in 30 years (2047)?- In 2047 I think our system will be fully automated and there will be a lot of unemployment in the labor market. Unemployment in a fully automated system however will look a lot different than now. What I mean is that the government will subsidize poor people because it is to their advantage that the lower people in society prosper to keep crime down, reduce animosity, and promotes giving their money right back to the market. Unemployment will mean that many are unable to work, not that they made the choice not to work.
- If you were advising your kids - what would you tell them about earning a living in the future?-I would begin to tell them the importance of staying up to date with education and be knowledgeable about current topics in the world. Earning a living in the uncertain future means to take educated and smart decisions with what field of study to go in and to be very good in it. I am betting on the trade schools, medical schools, and business schools.
