I watched “Pan's Labyrinth by Guillermo del Toro”. I had mixed feelings about the movie. On one hand I enjoyed the movie and really like it, but on the other I didn’t like the movie at all. I liked the mystical aspects of the movie and how in it the fairy tale made sense and was believable. It wasn’t cheesy or cliche. It was fun, dangerous, and challenging. It wasn’t too complicated to follow along with, and both the stories didn’t overpower the other. I also really liked how each mythical creature fit the place that you saw them in the movie. Like when Ofelia meets the fauno. The fauno fits in with the labyrinth almost like he was made from it. The things I didn’t like about the movie was the violence and how dark the movie was. I didn’t like how it was man on man violence and that they showed it. I hated the stepfather. He was an evil man that only cared about getting a son. He didn’t care about his wife or his daughter. He didn’t care about who lived or died. It was like he thrived from hurting people and took pleasure in doing it. I didn’t like how he was ok when he found out that he just killed two innocent people in the bunny scene. I also didn’t like the monster that ate the children and fairy’s. It was just too gross for me, how he just bit their heads off. However, I had mixed feelings about when Ofelia drugged the stepfather, when the maid cut open his cheek, and also when the doctor killed the prisoner. I understood why they each did what they did, but I hated it because they had to do it. I didn’t understand what the watch was about. I didn’t understand why the stepfather fixed it and then lied about having it. Overall I think it is amazing how they managed to have two stories going on at the same time without them getting too confusing. I really liked the sets and the scenery, I think that it all fit together nicely. The only thing that really bothers me about the movie is the man on man violence. For some reason
