RUN DUDE, SOCIETY WANTS TO CHANGE YOU - Jan. 12, 2006 at 02:56 AM
READER ALERT: You are not in control of your lifestyle, at least not fully. You think you are living your life to its fullest but you are not. Someone else is and this someoneÑs name is spelt S.O.C.I.E.T.Y.
ThatÑs right! BANG! Immediately an EXTREME being appears. Hey, itÑs t.R.I.P.l.e XXX! Okay, now you are thirsty for knowledge so you approach the X with all the reverence you can muster.
ÑOh his X-ness. Please tell me more about who it is that is controlling my life!Ñ
The X looks at you with eyes full of wisdom and speaks wise words into your ears. ÑDude, light a joint and come with me on this journey to the X-treme. The battle will not be easy but with perseverance, u can change. For, this beast S.O.C.I.E.T.Y is no weak opponent but fear not, the XÑs got your backÑ
BANG! Immediately a huge life size plasma screen appears. The X snaps his fingers and the screen comes alive with people and activity. You recognize the people. Fact is you know them. ÑThatÑs my dad,Ñ you scream. ÑAnd my mum, my siblings, my family, our neighbours, my best friend, my classmatesÑ.Ñ You begin to get hysteric. The X grabs you by the collar and shakes you. A deep calm overcomes you. ÑThat Ñ, the X says to you Ñis S.O.C.I.E.T.YÑ.
Confusion is written in bold letters all over your face. The X knows, the X understands, the X snaps his fingers and BANG! a chair appears. ÑSit down and let me lecture you!Ñ The X commands.
He starts:
ÑS.O.C.I.E.T.Y is always trying to control you telling you what to do and what not to do consciously and/or unconsciously. Tell me, how would you react if the Maths ÑsharkÑ in your class flunked a maths test or the Ñgood boyÑ in your neighbourhood started visiting ÑcircleÑ to get with some prostitutes or you met your pastor at a night club ÑbogeyingÑ like the world was going to end tomorrow?Ñ
ÑWhatever your answer is goes to prove my point. Society expects peopleÑs lifestyle to conform to what it has attributed them. And indeed people unconsciously switch and tailor their lifestyles to fit what society has modelled for them.
