Part I. What Are Parents?

What are parents? Parents are individuals that love you unconditionally and will support you and your decisions through thick and thin. They are always there to comfort you when you are sad or upset. Parents take care of you when you are sick and force you to get up everyday and go to school. There are many reasons that my parents are the greatest.

My parents are the most astonishing people in the entire world. My mother is the loving individual that made love to my amazing father and in the mean time conceived me. My mother gave birth to me on Friday, April 13, 1984 in Brooklyn, New York. She is also the individual that has worked three jobs for as long as I can remember, to put a roof over my head and to feed my two brothers and I. She supports every decision that I make in my life, good or bad. I usually don't make bad decisions, but my brothers do fairly often. First, they both dropped out of school. Next, they both started doing drugs. Then they started selling drugs. They both got busted on the same drug deal; they sold 50 pills of ecstasy (methylenedioxy-methamphetamine) to an undercover cop. My oldest brother was sentenced to three years in prison at Jackson Work Camp in Malone, Florida. My youngest brother was sentenced to three years probation, after the first eight months failed a drug test and violated his probation. You guessed it then he served the rest of his time at Orange County Work Release. They are both out of prison and work release now, but both are still doing drugs regularly. The reason for the last few sentences is to prove that my mother is a very vigorous woman. She stayed strong for me because I was still young when this occurred. I was still in my senior year of high school and it hit me hard, so my mother would tell me that everything would be okay and that eventually they would learn their lesson.

My parents are so delighted when I bring home certificates for Perfect Attendance and President's List. Every time I receive a new award they are more satisfied than the last. I guess that I strive to succeed in life to show my parents that my brother's mistakes were not their fault. I have lived in the same house and we have all gone through the same problems, but I didn't get in trouble with the police and go to prison. Instead, I have been enrolled in college since April 2003 and I have completed three Associates of Science degrees in: Accounting, Management, and Computer Applications. I am currently enrolled at Florida Metropolitan University pursuing my Bachelors in Accounting. All this time, even with every thing that my family and I have been through I have managed to maintain perfect attendance and a 4.00 grade point average. So in all reality my parents did an outstanding job raising me.

Parents are just ordinary people that have children and love them unconditionally. They play with the cards they are dealt. If the child screws up they are there to bail them out (no pun intended), and if they do good the parents are there to praise them and be happy with them. My parents are the greatest parents in the universe because they do just that. They love me unconditionally and no matter what path I choose in life they will always be there for me and love me for me.

Part II. Good mothers

My mother was a single mom that worked three jobs to be able to support my two brothers and me. Even working all the time she still made time for us. That is a good mother. Good mothers make sure that their children have a house to live in, clean clothes to wear, toothpaste to brush their teeth, shampoo to wash their hair, soap to wash their body, food to eat, a plethora of love, and someone that they can talk to about anything. They also teach their children about morals and values.

Good mothers make sure that when the child wakes up in the morning that they have breakfast to eat (even if it is cereal). They also make sure that the child gets to school on time, whether that means catching the bus on time or driving them to school everyday. They make sure that the child does his or her homework every night and check it when it is completed. If the child needs help with his or her homework, a good mother will help them if possible or hire a tutor to make learning less complicated for the child. A good mother will tuck the child into bed at a reasonable hour each night and read them a bedtime story or sing to them if that it what the child likes. If the child is having a nightmare and wakes up in the middle of the night upset, a good mother will wake up and comfort the child and let them know that everything is going to be okay, so they can go back to sleep peacefully.

A good mother reprimands her children. Discipline is the key to a well-behaved child, without discipline the child will be a little hellion. A good mother does not beat her children, lock them in closets, or leave them alone. A good mother will smack her child if necessary or put soap in his or her mouth if the child says a bad word. That is the only way to show them that what they are
