"Where's Your Moustache?" The famous, "Got Milk" American advertising campaign created by Goodby Silverstein & Partners for the California Milk Processing Board in 1993; later licensed for use by other milk processors and dairy farmers. The ads encourages the consumption of cow's milk along with the faces of America's successful and finest celebrities wearing milk moustaches and giving tips and advice on the consumption of milk. The advertisements were to appeal to younger audiences and their milk consumption. These advertisements have had a 90% recall rate from consumers.
Fashion model, actress, producer, host, mentor, author, Tyra Banks graced the "Got Milk" advertisement in 1996. She's beautiful, strong, confident, and stunning in this advertisement. Tyra wears a milk moustache and a simple pair of denim jeans with a tank top. They use the masculine feminine appeal which is the general approach used in cosmetic advertisements. The goal when using this type of appeal is to create the impression of the perfect person. The implication is that the product will inspire the perfection seen in these advertisements. What makes this ad so special and appealing, is the aspiring Tyra Banks herself and the tips she gives on her love for milk and her body to young girls. Why Tyra? Tyra's indeed a role model in the public eye; she's a perfect fit for this ad. She has that super model body, that almost every girl or woman wants.
In her tip she reaches out to young girls, by saying: "Girls Here is Today's Beauty Tip." She sends a message that the consumption of cow's milk will produce beauty. She then adds that 9 out of 10 of your good girlfriends, aren't getting enough calcium. Not that it's an actual fact, but on a statistic level. She explains in her tip that by consuming at least 3 glasses of cow's milk in a day, the human body gets the calcium it needs for strong bones. This ad is persuasive, because of the beauty of Tyra. She's drop dead gorgeous, stunning, and of course she appears healthy.
With just a glance at this ad and looking at Tyra, it almost instantly turns me to consume milk more than often to produce the clear skin she has, confidence, healthy, and fit body. Her message persuades me as well, it's kind of like a wakeup call. We already know that milk is absolutely great for the body, strong bones, etc. This advertisement produces the results you can get consuming milk. I actually love milk and other dairy products like yogurt, cheese, etc. It's hard for me to drink a glass of milk though. Tyra gives advice to have three glasses of milk per day.
