1.) "At times we do fall back and become discouraged, but it is not that we are making no progress. Simply, this is the very nature of life--that it is a climb--and that the resolution of each issue in turn creates other issues, born of plights which are unimaginable today. The pursuit of happiness is never-ending; happiness lies in the pursuit." (Ch.1 P.22)

a.) I chose this statement because it is a really great outlook on life and the way it should be viewed. In a business situation many people think that since they are not successful right away that things aren't going so well. If you look at the situation as a whole you may have affected one person to try harder and you know yourself that you will work harder to succeed. Not everything will come easy to you. When you work to achieve something there are steps you must take. It doesn't just happen all at once. I completely agree with this statement. The fact that the nature of life is a climb and there is never an end until life is over. When you solve a problem and create a solution you may look at that solution and see that there are other things that could help that solution or other possible problems with it. Personally the statement reminded me of my growth as a football player at UD. When I came in I knew I was good enough to play, but I didn't know enough. In my mind I knew that I needed to learn more and grow as a person to become the best player I could be. At first I failed at the things the coaches told me to do, but eventually I gained their praise for that. Once that occurred I found that there were things that I wanted to work on to make myself better. This statement I feel relates to motivation and more specific Goal-Setting Theory. A goal serves as a motivator because it allows people to compare their present capacity to succeed with that required succeeding at that goal.

2.) "Most of us view the world not as it is but as we would like it to be. The preferred world can be seen any evening on television in the succession of programs where the good always wins--that is, until the late evening newscast, when suddenly we are plunged into the world as it is." (Ch.1, P.12)
