What are the types of moon all over the planets? Most of these moons are named in Greek. Well Mercury and Venus have no moons. As you know we have only one moon for our own planet. The first man to land in our moon was Neil Armstrong. Mars has two moons, the name of those moon are Phobos and Deimos. Both considered being captured asteroids. Jupiter's moons are called Galilean Moons. The names of those moons are Europa, Callisto, Lo and Ganymede. The name Galilean was named after Galileo, the man who used a telescope to observed space, and he is the first to discover Jupiter's Moons so they name those moons after him. Saturn has four moons; their names are Enceladus, Tethys, Dione, and Mimas. Titan is the biggest moon in the universe; this is one of Saturn's moons. Uranus has five moons. The names of those moons are Miranda, Ariel, Umbriel, Titania, and Oberon. One of Neptune's moons is named Triton. Pluto has three moons, named Charon, Nix, and Hydra. How was the moon formed? This is a question that I have been wondering, for a while. According to my information, the moon was not supposed to be formed. As the solar system was still forming, there were asteroids. An asteroid hit earth while it was still forming. As the asteroid hit earth, a piece of planet went apart from the earth. Then as that piece of the planet was apart, that piece formed and turned into the moon. So in a way the moon is part of the earth.
