The Sandlot

Not Just Your Neighbor Baseball Team

"The Sandlot" is an adventure of nine boys who are doing everything they can to retrieve a lost ball. "The Sandlot" is an original, quirky, and off center movie that is for people of all ages. For children, it is full of adventure and humor, and for adults, it gives them a sense of poignant nostalgia. It is one of the most famous and biggest movies about children playing baseball that it humorous and heart warming all at the same time.(Coming of baseball) It is full of all the summer memories like playing baseball with the town kids, sleep overs in the tree house, the desirous lifeguard at local pool and the rival ball team. It takes the outcast boy and turns him into one of the boys. The Sandlot is about new and old friendships, living your summer to the fullest, and never giving up on your dream.

It all starts when egg head Scotty Smalls moves into the Southern California town looking to make friends. He goes to the neighborhood baseball field wanting to befriend the boys on the baseball team. The problem is Smalls doesn't know anything about baseball. When standing in centerfield one day, he gets a ball hit to him and not knowing how to catch a ball, it hits his head. Smalls walks away humiliated wanting to quit his baseball career, but star player, Benny, teaches him all he needs to know.

Smalls was just a nerdy kid before Benny came to his rescue, but now he is one of the Sandlot kids. The summer Smalls arrived in the small town is the summer that started his whole career of loving baseball. Benny taught Smalls how to throw, catch, and the whole history of the sport. After a few months of being short one player the boys now had formed a full team. One day Benny got up to the plate and hit the ball so hard that the wrapping came right off the ball. All the boys saw this as an amazing happening but to Benny it was the end to their baseball game because that was the last ball they had. Being a hero Smalls goes home and "borrows" his step father's baseball. His step-fathers baseball wasn't just a regular Rawlings baseball it was autographed for his father and was being passed down through the family. Smalls finally hits his first home run but the celebration is short-lived as the ball goes over the fence into the yard of "The Beast." This turns into a disaster and worst catastrophe of Smalls life when he realizes that not only is the ball his step-fathers but it was signed by the greatest player
