20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
In the second portion of the book several of my questions were answered. However several more questions developed throughout the story. I was surprised to find out that the captain of the strange vessel was a civilized human. I expected this character to possibly an alien or from an unknown savage like race. I thought it was strange that the author had the captain of the ship capable of speaking and reading over five languages. That seems like it could be a near impossible feat especially for someone who seems so devoted to the ocean. Unfortunately it has not yet been revealed what country or nationality the captain of this ship is. He has been depicted as a person who has basically shunned themselves from all of society and mankind. So far I have liked the name choices that the author has given to some of the characters and objects. Naming the mysterious ship maker Captain Nemo and the mysterious ship the Nautilus seem very appropriate names for the setting of this book. I found it fascinating when Captain Nemo explained to the professor how the ship runs. The fact that they are able to gather electricity under water seems like a remarkable and astonishing feat. They were even capable of gathering a type of nicotine under the ocean so they could make cigars. I was not surprised to see that the harpoonist who was also captured on board continued to get angrier and more frustrated. He even tried to strangle one of the crew members aboard the nautilus when they tried to deliver food. I would not be surprised to see that the harpoonist is killed fairly soon for trying to escape or overthrow the ship. At this point there are still many questions and many mysterious that remain for the three captured men aboard the nautilus. I still have no idea of how they are possibly going to be able to escape from the Nautilus
