What do you think were the most important sports events in 2006? Could it be Maryland defeating Duke in the Women's Basketball Championship? Or is it Italy winning the 2006 FIFA World Cup? I am here to tell you what 3 events I think surpass all others.

First things first, I will tell you what I think was the number one sports happening in 2006. I think that the 2006 Rose Bowl is number one with Texas, the underdogs, surpassing USC to win the National Championship. Vince Young, the quarterback, defying all odds by defeating USC in the final seconds, 41-38. Vince Young was the stat leader in the game with 200 rushing yards on 19 attempts. He was 30/40 for 267 yards, and Young had 3 total touchdowns, not to mention, he was the MVP.

Second of all, I want to give my props to Florida. Winning the National title in two sports, football and basketball. What an accomplishment. Well since the football title was in 2007, I guess I will sum up the basketball title. This was Florida's first ever basketball title. They came out winning big over UCLA, 73-57. Joakim Noah lead the team in points, with 16, rebounds, with 9, and blocks, with 6.

Last, but surely no least, there is the Pittsburgh Steelers win Super Bowl XL at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan, defeating the Seattle Seahawks 21-10. Hines Ward was the MVP of this game, with 5 receptions for 123 yards and 1 total touchdown. Ben Roethlisberger was 9/21 for 123 total yards and 2 interceptions. Amazingly enough, the Steelers wide receiver, Antwaan Randle El was 1/1 for 43 yards and a touchdown pass to Hines Ward to seal the game. What an athlete.
