I have recently read the book A CHILD CALLED IT and it was very intense. The book is based on the true story of Dave Pelzer and my god is it insane. Through out the whole book Dave is being tortured as a little boy by his mother to the extent where he almost dies. While I was reading this my stomach started to turn from the horrible things that have happened to Dave as a little boy. The worst thing that happened to Dave was his mom stabbing him in the stomach because he made her made. I read this and I just started wondering how anyone could do this to their son. If I were Dave I would have run away to the police station after this happened to report his mother. Then his dad knowing this was happening let it go on with out trying to stop it or taking the boy away from his mother. This would also hurt Dave mentally because his father was his idle and by his father letting this happen he felt that he wasn’t loved. To me the father is just as guilty as the mother. Another bizarre thing about the torture was that he was the only sibling that was being tortured when he had three other siblings that could have been tortured. You would think that they would try to help Dave but instead they made fun of him and lied to their mother to get him on more trouble. This may sound wrong but to me those children deserve to be tortured just as much as their brother for doing that to him.
After reading this book I have a new understanding for child abuse. It not only hurts the child physically but it also hurts them mentally as well. I believe that if you abuse your child then you deserve to be put to jail and given the death penalty. I would have to give this book eight and a half out of ten because it is so disturbing that it makes you not want to read the book any more. I would recommend this book to anyone who has a strong stomach.
