A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer is an intriguing journey through the torturing childhood of the author himself. The title relates to the book because his mother calls the boy, Dave Pelzer, "It". She does not call him by his real name. He was nothing but an object in her eyes. Dave being the outcast of his own family and being a victim of severe abuse, will leave you in awe as you wait with anticipation for the end of this little boys struggle to live. This book is a wonderful and uniquely inspiring story that is sure to touch your heart.
Dave Pelzer, a four-year-old boy, who lived with both of his parents and two siblings, had a normal life. Things soon started to change as his parents's marriage started to fall apart. Dave's mother formed an addiction to alchohol. Dave's mother began to blame him for her marriage, resulting in upcoming years of unthinkable torture, as well as mental abuse.
At first, this abuse was kept a secret from the world. Including their own family. Dave had become his mothers slave. He was isolated from his family most of the time including dinner. He didn't understand why his mother hated him so much, but not his brothers. Over a period of time he built up a hatred for everyone that he came in contact with.
He hated his mother for the abuse. He hated his father for ingoring it. He hated his brothers because they had fun while he sit at the stairs of basement awaiting his mothers signal for chores. At first his daydreams helped him cope but further in the story, it was no use.
