This book is A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. This is an action drama book and its purpose is to show how people change. And it also shows the depth of human cruelty.
One interesting part in this book is the idea about how cruel some people can be. In one part of the book, Alex and his droog brutally beat up a bum until he spits up blood and vomit, then go to someone’s house, robs the man, and hurts his wife. I thought this was very cruel. You never know how bad people can be until you read it sometimes. When we get mad, we may also want to hurt others on the inside, but it’s not very often that people actually do it.
Towards the end of the book, Alex gets sent to prison for killing someone while trying to rob them, but eventually, he is released. And he comes out reformed. He was put into a program that brainwashed him into hating violence. Anytime he would interact with violence, he would start feeling sick. This was interesting, because its amazing how people can be brainwashed to act a certain way. And to change the way they have been acting for years.
The book was organized by chapters and parts that set out a timeline starting from when he was a droog, to when he was in prison, to when he was released and reformed. The author used a lot of similies to describe how something was. For example, Beethoven’s symphony number 9. He described it as angel trumpets and devil trombones. He uses personification to say the music was gorgeousness and georgosity made flesh.
The author’s language and explanations were very clear and useful. There was a lot of made up English slang, but it was clear on what the words meant. So, it was pretty easy to understand.
All in all, I thought this was a pretty good book. It made me think, and realize how people can really be sometimes. If could talk to the author, I would compliment him on writing such a good book because this book shows a lot
