"A Raisin in the sun"

Walter, Ruth, Beneatha and Mama had dreams of their own on what the money should be spent on. Walter wants to spend all the money on a liquor store. He thought that it would be a quick way for him to get rich. Also, by investing on the liquor store he would get all the things his family has ever wanted, a better life. This is seen when Walter says, "Yeah. You See, this liquor store we got in mind cost seventy-five thousand and we figured......that be ten thousand each (pg615).....I'm thirty-five years old; I been married eleven years and I got a boy who sleeps in the living room- and all I got to give him is stories about him is stories about how rich white people are (pg616)." He wants to offers his family something better but he wants his mother's money. Beneatha on the other hand understands that the money that they will be receiving is Mama's and not theirs but she wants her mother to spend the money on her school. This is seen when Beneatha says, "That money belongs to mama, Walter, and it's for her to decide how she wants to use it (pg118)" She want's to become a doctor. But she is more worried about her two boyfriends. Ruth wants to rekindle her marriage with Walter and would do any thing for him as well as to see the family happy. This is seen when Mama says, " I think Ruth is thinking 'bout getting rid of that child.... A woman will do anything for her family. The part that's already living (pg39)." Ruth wants to kill her unborn child because she doesn't want more problems in the house. They can't afford another kid and they have no room in the house. Mama wants something for the whole family. She is going to put away some of the money for Beneatha's schooling and she wants to buy a house. This is seen when Mama says, "Some of it got to be put a way for Beneatha and her schoolin' -and ain't
