“A Tale of Two Cities”
“A Tale of Two Cities” is an article about the difference between th rich and poor and no middle class. Sevcik states that the median income the “average” family has grown by less than 1 percent, and the median income for the rich has grown by 200%. The two ommunities are completly different. Rancho Santa Fe, CA, it is the wealthyist town in the United States. Houses ae going for $3-18 million dollars. These homes have tennis courts, and inground pools, and even movie theaters. The floors are made of rich limestone, and some even have temperature-controlled wine cellars. People in this area have the luxury of shopping and have exspensive cars. These people average $200,000 a year. Rancho Santa Fe, CA is also a family place to live. Some of the women that live there have no jobs and are stay a home mothers. They drive there children to events and state that there are no lazy people here.
In South Alamo, TX, things are different. The median income is below poverty level at $13,000. It is so close to the boarder, so there are alot of immigrants. People here dont have access to electricity or sewer. One lady named Marie Lopez, is a mother of four. In order to give her children a bath or boil water, she waits until it is dark out to walk to her church, where she fills up her jugs from the church’s garden hose, then strugggles to carry them home. Many families don’t have access to running water because they don’t own the land. In some homes, in order to have elecctricy, people hook generators up to their cars. Crime here is also a huge problem. The people finally got police to help protect the town. Leti Sanchez who is an immigrant states “Even as the area grows safer, many women are already dreaming of moving out and up”. People have the hope and dreams to live somewhere with runing water, no matter how much the people help each other.
