A Trip to the Salon
About once every three months, I take a trip to the hair salon. I usually never see anyone I know, besides my stylist. On my last trip, I ran into an old friend Amelia. I had not seen Amelia since we had both gotten married. We sat down in the waiting area and began to catch up on being married. We both of course exchanged photos of the children we now had.
Amelia asked what else I had going on in my life, besides being a doting mother and wife. I told her I was a stay at home mom and I had recently started back to school. She asked how I found time for classes in a busy schedule with kids.
I told her, “I am at Axia College. I do my classes on-line at home.”
Amelia gave me a puzzled look and asked how it works.
I gave it some thought for a moment, as this was my first time to explain this to someone. I told Amelia, “The first thing I do is login to my class forums. This is where my fellow students, the professor and I meet for class. The forum is our hub of communication.”
The first question Amelia had was if we all had to be logged in at the same time.
I said, “No, we do not have to be logged in at the same time, but we did have to turn in our assignments on a set schedule.”
She then asked how I talked to my professor or fellow classmates if I had a question. So, I then explained to her about asynchronous communication. That I could use email or call my professor with any questions I have. I told her that I usually communicate with my fellows classmates through a threaded discussion.
