"A way of Life"
Failure: a word that plays continuously in my head, always mocking. Everyday effort is put into everything I do; I smile, thinking the voices of parents, teachers, society, and the world will one day play a different tune. "There is an eagle in me that wants to soar, and there is a hippopotamus in me that wants to wallow in the mud." (Carl Sandburg) For years the future I dreamed seemed impossible. But one has to wonder, is there really an eagle inside? Or is there simply a hippo that will never evolve into an inspiring creature.
Undoubtedly, there is a decision whether or not they will succeed in life. That decision can turn into a heavy and excruciating burden in a matter of seconds. Carl Sandburg describes that when striving for success, a sudden high, an addiction for life occurs. If we trust in ourselves we will soar.
It seems, failure is a state of mind; a simple image of defeat that will change or grow during the course of life. For the longest time the dream of becoming an actress was just that, a dream, until I perspicaciously knew that I had the power to soar and give everything I had, no matter what. If you have the thoughts to fly, you simply have to. Now the images embedded into my head are not simply that I cannot fail, but now only start again.
So there I was, faced with reality that the choices I make will always be an obstacle in my life. What college should I attended, where to move later in life, how to earn a job. There just simply needs to be a change. If unsatisfied with life why wallow in the mud? Yes, understanding the obstacles in life might weigh us down, but if we work harder, take grasp of what is important, and hold on to it for dear life we can never fail. We will never really know what to bring while in flight.
