- A forest is a highly complex constantly changing environment made up of a variety of living things (wildlife, trees, shrubs, wild flowers, ferns, mosses, lichens, fungi and microscopic soil organisms).
- And non-living things (water, nutrients, rocks, sunlight and air).
- Trees are the biggest part of this complex community.
Types of Forest
- Tropical rain forests, temperature rain forests, boreal forests, mangrove forests, Carolinian forests.
- Forest is a large area of land covered with trees or other woody vegetation.
- Forest account for 75% of the gross primary productivity of the earth.
- Provide ecosystem services to humans.
- Forestry is an important economic segment in various industrial countries example in Germany, forestry cover nearly a third of the land area.
- Wood is the most important renewable resource and forests supports more than a million jobs and about €170 billion in yearly turnover.
Main causes are:
- Agricultural sector
- Industry(forestry)
- Construction of more houses
- Increase in population
- Destructive method of cutting trees
- Increase in different types of unsafe gases.
- Use of chemicals to grow trees and grass.

It is the dominant terrestrial ecosystem on earth. Forest provides us with many things like food, medicine, shelter, oxygen and warmth. Forest can also be defined as a community full of organisms that depend on each other for the survival.
