Why Accounting?
Accounting was originally my second choice for my major. I was originally going to go into criminal justice and become a police officer, but when I was in the police explorer class I decided that being a police officer wasn’t what I wanted. Then my senior year I took Econ and Business Law at my high school and really liked them so I decided to go into business. I still didn’t know what type of business I wanted to do. I first thought I would do management. Then I was thinking I would be good at marketing, but when I took accounting 201 my Freshman I absolutely fell in love with it and decided to continue to study it. The thing I really like about accounting is the fact that its math that when done right should balance and make sense. I have always been good with math and numbers, so when I see it all work out right and it balances it makes me feel so good knowing I did it right. Plus with an accounting major you can do a whole lot of jobs not just sitting at a desk all day for hours on end. Another thing I like about accounting is the fact that the salary is really what you make it, cause in some professions there is an average cutoff for salary, where as in accounting the more you work and depending on which field you go into the salary can just continue to go up by you doing more. That kind of leads me to why I am in this class. Since this class is required for accounting I would eventually have to take it, but I am trying to get my masters in finance and accounting in as little time as possible, so I am taking 18 credits almost every semester so I can hopefully graduate soon and get my CPA after only 4 and ½ years. I hope this class will help me get all the concepts down so I can succeed later on in future accounting classes. I am also hoping this class will also help me determine what type of accounting I eventually want to get into.
