This year's work in our acting class consisted of two assignments Ð'- One contemporary scene and one scene written by William Shakespeare. Both scenes created difficult challenges as an actor, but I feel both strengthened my talents by the end of their final products.
The first scene done was a scene with Tarah. The scene involved a married couple in the mid 1900's, and dealt with role of women during this time period and the struggles that would take place between them. What made this scene so difficult was the task of understanding the time period it took place in, and how men would act toward women. Overall, I feel we portrayed the characters well and understood the meanings for the emotions felt during the final presentation. I would give us an A- on this scene.
The second, and most recent scene, was a scene from Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar" and involved me and Chris. This was a more difficult piece for me, being the first "anger toned" piece I have yet to do. The scene itself was difficult too because of the text it was written in. After some help understanding what certain words and sentences meant, the scene came more naturally and actually worked very well. I would give us an A on this assignment.
Some of my weaknesses that I plan on working on are my diction at certain points, and working on making my meanings stronger. Sometimes I feel as though emotions are sometimes forced when on stage, so making the meanings stronger will make that problem easier to solve.
