For the past thirty years, there has been a debate over violence is the media and whether or not that media violence leads to real-life violence. There are those who would say that yes, violence in the media has and will still lead to real-life violence and there are those who would say that no, the violence in the media does not cause real-life violence. The main concern on this issue of course the effect that the media violence has on children. Especially with the recent school shootings and a rise in violent crimes around the world there has to be something for people to point their fingers at and unfortunately the parent groups as well as others have chosen to point

The Effects of Media Violence Media influence refers to the way in which the mass media in all their forms effect a person’s behavior. For children, especially, watching violent television, playing violent video games, and listening to popular music. The rise of interactive media such as video games and the internet has introduced new ways for children to be exposed to violence. Research attempts to determine whether media violence is especially music lyrics, television, and video games are related to subsequent violent behavior among children. Music is the art of combining sounds to form expressive compositions. The media points to certain types of music like metal rock and rap music. Music videos are much more like other video media (tv, movies) in that can tell a story with graphic violent images. Research has suggested that explicit lyrics are related to aggression in children.
