Agency and Accountability
Every one of us has agency. Agency is the gift that we have been given from God. It allows us to be free to act according to our own wills. Accountability is the responsibility we have for the way we use our agency. We are held accountability for our behaviors. In order to be accountable, people must not only have the ability to choose, but must also have enough knowledge to make each choice. No matter what decisions we make or what we do, there will always be a consequence after every move. We are held accountable for the things that we do and the decisions that we make according to the knowledge that we gained. Agency is also an indispensable part for our eternity. The use of agency influences on all future opportunities given to us later in life. We can use agency to create a society where freedom can be enjoyed, or we can use it to let ourselves be restricted and compelled.
Rule of Law
The Rule of Law is a body of law exists to which all citizens are subject, regardless of their social status, abilities, or wealth. Everyone is held accountable to the same standards. It requires people to have respect and self-restraint for the law. Those who are not able to do so are subject to civil restraint. The rule of Law creates regulations for the society and offers an opportunity for all of the citizens to experience freedom and liberty. As we become familiar with the rule of law and appreciate its role in our lives, we will eventually grow to respect the freedom which we act in a way that doesn’t interfere with others’ freedoms or restrain ours. The rule of law can be applied everywhere like a nation, a state or a community. It is a principle that provides people with equal position, freedom and consequence. When the rule of law is used in a correct and appropriate way, it will give the citizens more freedom.
True Liberty
True liberty is the balance between absolute freedom and absolute order and control. Balance is necessary because with absolute order, there is tyranny and with absolute freedom, there is anarchy. Neither anarchy nor tyranny can bring the society happiness and peace. The society which is willing to live with the gospel standards is the society that is fit for true liberty. People are able to act responsibly when given freedom. It means they use self-restraint and are able to act in a way that doesn’t have the trend to bring anarchy or tyranny to the society. The restraint from the government was needed when people started to act less virtuously, which is more likely to result in anarchy. The true liberty is based upon their own responsible actions and abilities to handle themselves.
