CHAPTER ONE - INTRODUCTION
1.1: Background:
Import and export situation in Bahrain:
At the last 30 years, Bahrain imports has been lightly exceeded exports. In 2000, the situation has been reversed, with imports of US$4.2 billion and exports of US$5.8 billion. Bahrain's major exporters are India (14%), Saudi Arabia (5%), the US (5%), the United Arab Emirates (5%), Japan (4%), and South Korea (4%). All those countries import generally processed and refined oil and oil-related products, which are the most exported products from Bahrain. Another major export for Bahrain is aluminum (7%). Bahrain's total exports is close to 63% from 1998 to 2000, while oil-related exports increased from 52% of total exports in 1998, to 66% in 1999, and back to 61% in 2000.
