Fossil Fuels in Alaska
"It took us 125 years to use the first trillion barrels of Oil. We'll use the next trillion in 30" In a recent advertisement published by the Chevron company, they state that Earth is running out of Oil, which in return means, gas prices are on the rise. Each end every day researchers explore new forms of energy to replace our current source, Gasoline. The only question is, how much longer will we be able to go on the Oil that we do have?
Coal, Natural Gas, and Oil are this Planets prime Fossil Fuels. They come in both a liquid and solid state, and all serve as a way of energy. These forms of energy are all found underground throughout Earth and a Majority of Oil that our Country uses, comes from out of this Country, the Middle East.
Oil has many uses, its used for Energy, and we all need energy for our cars. Oil, is made into Gasoline and Gas is what makes our automobiles perform. The Oil we use here comes from Oil reserves throughout the world. Saudi Arabia is home to the worlds largest Oil Reserve in the world and with Iraq being at the second largest, You can see how we depend on these countries for their Oil.
Everyday thousands of people around the United States go to the pump and fill up, except everyday the prices keep getting higher and higher. How much will it cost in five years to fill your car up? There needs to be a different alternative to gas, or a new place in which we can drill for Oil.
Over the past 3 years, an alternative source of transportation has arose, the Hybrid Car. Ford, Honda, and Toyota are just a few who are getting into the Hybrid Business. New hybrid vehicles will carry both an electric battery and a normal engine. The engine will run on gasoline only after a driver exceeds the mile capacity of the electric battery. These hybrids will empower electricity companies and hopefully put an end to the transportation fuel monopoly held by the oil companies. But these cars still use Gasoline, and we need to find another way of getting our Oil.
Alaska, The icy State in the North, is believed to be home to billions of barrels of Oil. And Currently, our Government is going through the process of potentially drilling in Alaska. If in a few years, our Country is able to be fully independent on our production of Petroleum products, Gas prices will go down, and we will have more Oil to last us longer.
