Alcoholism is a severe and often ignored disease. People who suffer from alcoholism might have problems anywhere from mild to life threatening. Alcoholism affects the alcoholics, their families, and the society in many different ways. The government's focuses are on drugs like cocaine and marijuana. What people don't realize is that America's leading drug abuse problem is alcohol.
More than over thirteen percent of American adults admit that they have experienced alcohol abuse or dependence. It is much more dangerous for an alcoholic to experience withdrawal than someone who is addicted to heroin or some other narcotic drug to experience withdrawal. Alcohol abuse often creates many disabilities in a person. It refers to excessive or problematic use. These are a few reasons why alcohol abuse is disabling and dangerous.
Alcohol prevents people from fulfilling obligation sat work, school, and at home. It's extremely dangerous while operating machinery or driving if alcohol has been abused. Alcoholism brings lots of legal problems, along with family and social problems brought by drinking excessively. Alcohol dependence is much more severe than just abusing alcohol. It refers to a more serious disorder and involves excessive or maladaptive use.
When one becomes dependent of alcohol, their tolerance level changes. The dependent begin drinking more and more alcohol than intended and loses control. They develop the inability to cut down or stop drinking and spend a long time drinking or recovering from the effects. The drinker often gives up important activities in order to drink. The dependent will continue to drink alcohol even knowing that this abuse problem has caused several other problems. Alcohol is a truly dangerous drug.
