In all reality, getting the gist Jeff Barbarian’s “The Gist Generation” isn’t really all that hard. Now, if you were to read Barbarian’s article fifteen years ago, I don’t think as many people would “get the gist”, so to speak. What I mean to say is in the past fifteen years or so, our access to information has increased exponentially. It’s only natural, with so much information at your fingertips, to browse through that information, and get an idea of what you want to know.

Barbarian hits a homerun when he says, “we have acquired taste for hit-and-miss, cut-and paste knowledge.” In understand why he says this. I’m sure that my pears would agree that in today’s’ world, everyone is rushing around more than ever, with or without interactions with the World Wide Web. With everything going on in our lives, it’s easier just to forget the basic facts and rush to the next thing on our lists. We can put it all together later if we ever get a break and there’s enough time to fit it into nineteen different schedules that are being juggled by one hand.

Unless you have been stuck on a deserted island or locked in someone’s basement for the last twenty years, you’ve been affected by computers and the internet itself. In most cases, people are directly interfacing with every piece of information and stuff they were or were not looking for. In this day and age, there are very few people, especially in America that have not been touched by all these technological advancements.

For Example, to turn in most of my assignments, I’m required to use D2L system that the University of Marshfield-Wood County has set up. My teachers, in turn, have to check that system for their student’s assignments. In the meantime, there’s
