The United States is a unique nation in several ways, but there is especially one (fact) which fascinates me. And that is foreign people's interests and ideas about the American people. The diversity of ideas and meanings about the American people is astonishing, and the stereotypes are many. Some stereotypes are more commonly used than others and I have some theories about how they occurred. Because stereotypes in our days are the results of impressions, I will write what I believe are the sources to the stereotypes and if they are valid. I will use three of the stereotypes I believe are the most popular in our days, in order to illustrate my theories in this essay. I have chosen these stereotypes;

* The common white American living in the city

* The common Afro-American living in the city.

* The common white American living in the countryside

The common white American living in the city.

One of the stereotypes which often is recognized as a typical American, is the common white American in the city. This stereotype is usually characterized as a obese and lazy person with poor eating habits, a small apartment and working as a daily manager in a store. This stereotype is often recognized of having a poor social life and it is often implicated that the person has tendencies of being bitter.

The common Afro-American living in the city.

This stereotype is usually described as an obese person with little intelligence, a poorly paid job and an unattractive apartment. This stereotype is often recognized of having qualities, such as horrible eating habits, a tendency to be loud and is often criminal.

The common white American living in the countryside.
