In the beginning, the main character Jared is writing in his diary about his trip to the compound for his family reunion on July 4th. As usual he rides around the compound before going to the beach. But this time his bike happens to brake and he falls into a swamp that toxic waste had been dumped into. After scrubbing himself, he becomes clean until he realizes he can read minds.

He goes to his grandmother's house at the compound and begins to converse with his family. He overhears Uncle George talking about the frequent problems going on in the neighborhood. All of a sudden a series of numbers run through his head. He doesn't know what the mean. As he moved toward certain family members, he got a vision of what they were thinking. His head throbbed because of a massive headache. He decides to go home and sleep. After resting, his mind reading powers became stranger. He begins to read his family members minds and his shocked at what he finds out. His cousin is a killer. Next, he tries to read his Grandma's mind but she has her mind locked. He figures out that Grandma can read minds too.

At the end of the story, Grandma finds out that Cousin Annelis is a killer. She turns her in. After wards Grandma commits two robberies. But no one found out. Jared finds out and turns her in. His mom asks what happened. Jared begins his mind boggling story.
