Obesity is defined as a medical condition that people who accumulate excessive fat and this may impair their health. It is common to measure obesity by using the BMI index, which can be calculated by using a person’s weight(kg) divided by the square of height(m) to measure obesity. When the index is over 30kg/m2 means you are obese. Statistics from the World Health Organization show that approximately 600 million adults are obese till now. This is mainly caused by the increasing intake of high fat food and lack of physical activities. As a result, there are not only physical diseases but also psychological problems affect obese people’s daily life.

Obesity is generally caused by a large number of reasons. The fundamental reason of it is a combination of an excess of fat intake and a lack of physical exercise. The others relate to many aspects of your body such as gene, untoward effect of medical and illness.

Statistics from the World Health Organization shows that in the past forty years, the average food fat taken by one person in one day have increased all over the word, especially in the USA, the obesity rates have increased from approximately 14% to 31%. In addition,the pace of life is increasing with technological advancements, that is the main reason why more and more people like to eat fast food instead of healthy food now. Moreover, in some western countries the government have enacted some agricultural policies to made food prices lower than before. As a result, dairy food and meat are much cheaper compared with fruits and vegetables.

The technological advancements also make work easy, we can solve a complicated problem by clicking the mouse instead of heavy physical work for several months. The direct consequence is a new lifestyle,which we call—sedentary lifestyle means we spend much leisure time in watching TV and searching on the Internet. Consequently, at least 30% of the world’s population gets insufficient exercise.

What can obese affect us in our life is not only appearance but also our heath. Studies have found that obesity would increases the risk of many diseases. Cardiovascular diseases, mainly consist of heart disease and apoplexy, which were the leading cause of death all over the world in the past few years are one of the results of obesity. Also, obesity can cause other diseases like high blood pressure, fatty liver and your life expectancy may be reduced by about ten years compared with the healthy person.
