"The time for procrastination and delays and excuses are over; we are into a period of consequences." This quote from Winston Churchill rings true in today's
times. Here in America, or better yet the world, we are in a situation where we need to start making changes. The changes we make can happen at individual, school, and state levels.
The first and most basic level is what we can do as an individual. One of the most basic things to do is recycle. Recycling reduces so much energy it is ridiculous the amount of recyclable products we throw away. Recycling is cheap and easy. Another change one could make is investing in a hybrid car. It is an expensive change but worth is in the long run. Hybrid cars reduce a ton of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases emitted by regular cars. The more the society demands of hybrid cars the better and more affordable they will become. Another change to make is buying energy star appliances. This change will save money on the electricity bill and will also cut back on energy used. Another simple thing is simply turning off the lights when not in use and also not running the water while brushing your teeth or washing your face. Also, if every household in america changed one light-bulb to an energy efficient light bulb it would keep a million pounds of CO2 from going into the air.
Along with individual changes, there are many changes to be made at Bearden High School. Driving by the school at night, one could see all the lights and computers that just stay permanently off. It would not be a difficult change to turn them off when staff leaves for the night. One could only imagine how much energy the school is wasting by keeping the lights and such on at night. Another change would be to recycle all the paper in the school. The output of basic office paper in that school must be astronomical. Probably more than half
