In the current case, SG Cowen, an investment firm was looking to hire candidates for an entry level position. The company was focused on the emerging growth market for investments, namely health care and technology sector. The main concept of the study revolved around the hiring process of SG Cowen that comprised of different methods and decision criteria. As per the given scenario, there were four candidates left out of which only two had to be hired.

The case of SG Cowen shed light on the hiring process which was quite challenging and extensive for the candidates. The idea for the overall hiring process was to select the best talent for the available position. The organization selected candidates from the top notch educational institutions. However, the top 11 to 25 schools were emphasized upon for the selection of candidates. These schools had few team leaders who carried out information sessions to provide the details to the enthusiastic candidates. The campus interviews helped SG Cowen in selecting the few final candidates. The final round, Super Saturday was carried out for the purpose of interviewing the candidates in detail leading to final selection of associates. A night before the final interviews, a formal dinner was organized for the candidates and leadership team. The next day, final interviews were conducted in which each candidate had to give five interviews lasting for 30 minutes. After the interviews, the interviewers discussed which candidate should be selected for the available position.

As per the case, the people from SG Cowen focused on recruiting people who they thought were culturally fit according to the mindset of the firm. The right associate should be someone who is able to adapt to the rigorous stress, handling pressures, taking risks, responsibilities and is able to communicate and interact with people in a way that his personality reflects himself being as a fit for the organization. Also, the candidate must be willing to adapt to the culture of the company. SG Cowen wanted people who loved their job and matched the organizational culture.
