The Trojan War, a significant historical event in Greek Mythology which began in 1250B.C. , the war occurred because of an economic rivalry between Mycenae and Troy, a big trading city in current-day Turkey near the Dardanelles. There are many different tales of how the Trojan War began but there is one that seems to be popular. Helen wife to Menelaus the King of Sparta was seduced by Paris of Troy and brought to his homeland. Menelaus called upon aid from his brother Agamemnon the King of Mycenae and all of his allegiances. Thus the conflict between Troy and Mycenae began and resolved in chaos and destruction.

“According to the legend, the chain of events that led to the Trojan War started at a royal wedding. Peleus, who was the king of the Myrmidons, a race of people that evolved from ants, was marrying a sea nymph named Thetis. Many gods were present at the wedding. Eris, daughter of Zeus, was not invited to the wedding because she was the goddess of discord and was bound to stir up a lot of trouble.”

Peleus, The king of the Myrmidons, a race of people that eventually evolved from ants, had a marriage arranged with Thetis a sea nymph. Gods were present during the wedding except Zeus daughter Eris because she was the goddess of discord and it was her nature to cause trouble. Eris was furious that she was not invited to the wedding. She decided to proceed on and interrupt the ceremony. She threw a golden apple”for the fairest” among the Gods. Athena, Hera, and Aphrodite also were present at the wedding; each of them thought they were the fairest of all. They argued for a while about who should get the apple and finally in resolution they asked Zeus to decide.
