Writing Argument -Momaday
After reading the first paragraph and considering Momaday's broader implications I discovered that if you read his text, you can make a connection between what he is saying about photography and what he might be saying about life and the types of people that live it. I believe that his statements are valid and I would simply agree with his argument.
Comments such as "...Perceptions of the world..," and "Ð'...Hands of extraordinary...Can penetrate to a deeper level..." Lead me to believe that there is a double meaning within the essay. Momaday goes on to talk about images and how they are too often simply recorded. Could this be like saying that humans these days commonly let moments be captured without meaning?
Or what about observations like, "Ð'...bare definitionÐ'...," could this relate to how humans simply define great things in life as dull and barren? The last line of this passage is what really grabbed my attention and made me make connections to the double meaning. It states "Ð'...But in the hands of an extraordinary artist the camera can penetrate to a deeper level..," This might be suggesting that in life, the people that look at situations the right way will be able to succeed. Just like a good photographer looks through a camera lens with the right intentions and good eye, people in life need to look into their life's and day to day situations to truly penetrate to the deep level that Momaday is writing about.
