Appearance
I think that self esteem reflects a lot on how you look whether you are thin, have good looks, and show skin. Society makes us think that we have to be a certain way to get somewhere in life. The "American beauty" has pounded that into our head to make us feel like we are not good enough to go out in public if we are not the ideal beauty. There are many different kinds of people in the world that may be just as beautiful as a model, but you might not see that. Physical beauty is only skin deep, but true beauty is what is in the inside.
Society has created standards that make us think that we are not good enough. The public has a preference of how tall or short and how skinny or heavy you are. We even have preferences on skin, hair, and eye color. They are always trying to sell us ways to change ourselves. They have diet plans, color contacts, hair dye, tanning beds, and even plastic surgeries so that we can change our appearance. Many people do several of these things to better themselves because they think it will help their self esteem.
Physical beauty to most is everything. A relationship is usually started by attraction rather than what is inside. I have failed to see the point in having someone that may be the most beautiful person in the world, but you cannot have a civil conversation with him or her. I would prefer to have someone that could understand me and would help me out if I ever ran into a problem rather than someone more appealing than others.
Society, however, has a different idea about beauty that I do not agree with.
A model, such as Ms. America, could be the prettiest woman in the world, but what is beauty without brains? Well, it is normally a super model with great looks that only knows how to pose for a camera. A person like that can never stay in a real relationship because they have no idea what one is.
